SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (CBS) -- The blizzard that is set to clobber Chicago later this week will also sock downstate Illinois, and both houses of the Illinois General Assembly have canceled their sessions as a precaution.

House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago) has canceled the state House session for the week due to the blizzard.

Illinois State Senate President John Cullerton (D-Chicago) has also canceled that body's session for this week.
