State Legislators Cancel Sessions Over Snowstorm

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (CBS) — The blizzard that is set to clobber Chicago later this week will also sock downstate Illinois, and both houses of the Illinois General Assembly have canceled their sessions as a precaution.

House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago) has canceled the state House session for the week due to the blizzard.

Illinois State Senate President John Cullerton (D-Chicago) has also canceled that body’s session for this week.

Both houses will resume their session Feb. 8.

For the Chicago area, the snowstorm is expected to dump more than a foot on the area, and could top out at more than 18 inches.

I wish I got to tell my employer that I am taking a few paid days off due to the weather. Why not shut down the state so everyone is safe?

  • Brett

Perhaps the citizens should take a week off from paying taxes, too.
