Highway Worker Dies After Plowing Roads

GENEVA, Ill. (STMW) -- A 14-year employee of the Kane County Highway Dept. died Wednesday after finishing a shift plowing county roads.

William "P.T." Scardamaglia had recently returned from plowing the roads and was refilling his truck with salt when he collapsed, according to Kane County Board Chairman Karen McConnaughay.

The St. Charles resident was transported to Delnor Hospital in Geneva where he was pronounced dead, McConnaughay said. Scardamaglia's age and cause of death were not immediately released.

Campton Hills police and paramedics from the St. Charles Fire Department and Tri-City Ambulance provided life support.

In 2003, Scardamaglia filed to run in the Republican primary for Kane County chairman, but withdrew after challenges to the signatures on his petition.
