Hotline Would Help Parents With Problem Children
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WBBM) -- A proposed state hotline would help parents connect with services, as they try to get their children away from trouble.
As WBBM Newsradio 780's Dave Dahl reports, the sponsor, state Rep. LaShawn Ford (D-Chicago) says the hotline could be a useful resource for the parent at the end of his or her rope with a child.

"You don't want to have to call the police and give the child a police record," Ford said. "If you can just provide some type of connections with the parent before the child is turned over to the criminal system, I believe that we can save the state lots of money."
Ford's bill would give the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services the responsibility of running the parent helpline.
He defines out-of-control children as those who break curfew, run away, or get involved in drugs or gangs.
