Elderly Woman Found Dead In Home With No Heat

CHICAGO (CBS) — An elderly woman has been found dead in her West Side home, which had no heat Friday night.

Daisy Scott, 74, was found frozen inside her home on the 5800 block of West Walton Street, authorities said. Her home had no heat when officials arrived at the scene.

An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday to determine whether the cold played a role in her death, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Police did not immediately have information on the incident.

The City, State and Federal government should be shamed of how the elderly are treated. Why didn’t someone check on this woman? Does she have family? What about her neighbors? What a terrible way to die; alone and cold.

I feel that the utility companies share some if not all the blame. Ceo’s and cfo’s making millions per year in addition to their top level executives! Shame on you!, and shame on the U.S. Government for allowing this to continue. This is not the first year this has happened, an probablly won’t be the last.

This is so sad. That she lived for 74 years and then died what I’m sure was a painful death is very sad. We must care about our neighbors and family members and check in on them. Whatever happened to community?

I have to say that I was wondering when we would be hearing another story with this result. I heard the newscasters announce it over the radio, to check on your love ones and make sure that are prepared to be stuck at home for a couple of days. As soon as I heard that I wondered to myself…how long will it take for this to happen? I have to say though that it is NOT the government’s job to check on each of us. Where is the family? It is the families job to watch out for each other and take care of one another. Even if there was no family of hers around, she was sure to have friends that could check on her. Jesus Christ commands us to love on another. Why can’t people live around each other in today society and at least act neighborly. People today are so cold towards their neighbot. No one is concerned with anyone else, but their own self. Let’s learn a lesson and start treating each other with care and respect.
