Bittersweet Time For Murder Victim's Family

CHICAGO (WBBM/CBS) -- Monday will be bittersweet for a woman whose daughter was murdered in her Albany Park neighborhood apartment in 2009.

As WBBM Newsradio 780's Michele Fiore reports, Christopher Doehring, 22, is expected to be indicted at a preliminary hearing at the Cook County Criminal Courthouse Monday. Meanwhile in a hospital room in California, the sister of one of the alleged victims is scheduled to give birth via caesarean section.

Doehring was charged last month with two counts of murder, two counts of home invasion and two counts of armed robbery for the deaths of Angelina Escobar and Alex Santiago on Sept. 21, 2009, in the 3500 block of West Sunnyside Avenue, according to police. He was ordered held without bond.

Doehring was identified as the suspect who forcibly entered their apartment, shot them to death and removed items from their home before fleeing, according to a police report.

Doehring also was recorded on a telephone call, generated from Cook County Jail, admitting he shot both victims, stating, "I have no sympathy at all. I can do that again. That sh-- don't bother me,'' according to the report.

Angelina Escobar's mother, Diane Lauletta, hopes that the baby, and other young women, will make good choices when it comes to dating.

"Even as we go on and we find out more things whoever we're with, we still think things are going to change somehow. It's like a car that starts knocking, and you know if you don't take it in for service, it's just going to get worse. Relationships are the same. You have to either fix them, or if you can't, walk away," Lauletta said.

Just a day before the murders, Escobar told Lauletta she and Alex Santiago had a fight and she wanted to move back home, but later, the couple made up.
