McCamey Named Finalist For Bob Cousy Award

The Fighting Illini’s Demetri McCamey has been named a finalist for the Bob Cousy Award for the nation’s best point guard.

McCamey is averaging 14.7 points per game and 6.7 assists per game for the 15-8 Illini.

“This final list of ten players represents the best of the best in college basketball at the point guard position,” president and CEO of the Basketball Hall of Fame John L. Doleva said in a statement. “We look forward to recognizing the nation’s top college basketball point guard and wish all the candidates best of luck.”

The other finalists include McCamey, Cleveland State’s Norris Cole (20.1 PPG, 5.2 APG), Villanova’s Corey Fisher (15.7 PPG, 5.1 APG), BYU’s Jimmer Fredette (27.6 PPG, 4.3 APG), San Diego State’s DJ Gay (11.9 PPG, 3.3 APG), Kentucky’s Brandon Knight (17.5 PPG, 3.8 APG), St. Mary’s Mickey McConnell (16.3 PPG, 6.3 APG), Duke’s Nolan Smith (21.0 PPG, 5.6 APG), Washington’s Isaiah Thomas (16.5 PPG, 5.8 APG) and Connecticut’s Kemba Walker (23.2 PPG, 4.2 APG).

On March 10 the finalists will be narrowed to five and the winner will be announced on April 4.

    Must be a pretty low-rate award if McCamey is a finalist. The kid has been a disappointment ever since he came to Illinois.
