CHICAGO (CBS) – If the economy or the weather has you down and you’re looking for a lift in your day or something to laugh at, you can always tune in to what’s up in the Congress of the United States – the house of comedians on Capitol Hill.

This congressman, for example, Chris Lee of New York — elected once and just re-elected, married and one child – posting his pecs on the Internet to catch himself a woman for … well, whatever.

“I’m a very fit, fun, classy guy,” the congressman said. “I promise not to disappoint.”

Yes he promised all right, in an offer on Craigslist, where millions of people can see it, including, of course, the people who elected him.

A very fit, fun guy? I don’t know, but being so dumb, so public is funny — until you think about a congressman’s job, to pass judgment on the federal budget and domestic and foreign policy.

Then you think a congressman struttin’ his stuff to troll for a woman on Craigslist is not as funny as he may be dangerous. A congressman with more brawn power than brain power is a bad joke — the worst of which is, it’s on us.

He made a good point about being a congressman take a seriously job and not fooling around. Look what happened to America!!! Embarrassing, huh?? Losing a best salary job make you looked idiot!!! What were they thinking, huh?? What a shame!!! I expected to see America become stronger….not WEAK!!!

What he did on his own time with his personal life doesn’t have anything to do with his government work. He didn’t do anything illegal or put anyone in harm’s way… like drunk driving. If he’s a swinger or cheating on his wife, that’s up to him and his wife to deal with… not the public. If he’s making bad decisions in Congress, then we need to be concerned. People are people, and we need to be more understanding and less judgmental.

I somewhat agree that none of these shenanigans change a person’s record and achievement. If the guy does a good job and fulfills what his voters expect of him, none of this should make a difference.

On the other hand, there is an insane level of stupidity at play here in letting out such compromising pictures and so publicly as on Craigslist. That alone seriously makes me question his wisdom and judgement. If not for this sheer act of stupidity, I might be inclined to say that we should wait for signs that this is affecting his work performance.

Are you saying the majority of politicians in office have the public’s moral respect? You can’t even find that in the majority of religious figures let alone politicians. Besides, what is and what isn’t moral is subjective. Why are Bill Clinton and Jessie Jackson still so popular and influential?… both cheated on their wives. Separate their personal life from their life in government. A politician doing good for the people doesn’t need to be a saint.
