Lawsuit: Glass Found In McDonald’s Sandwich

CHICAGO (CBS) – A south suburban woman is suing McDonald’s, after she claims she found glass inside her McChicken sandwich.

Vjollca Lecaj claims that on Aug. 5, 2010, she was injured after she bit into and chewed a large shard of glass that was unknowingly contained within a spicy McChicken sandwich, which she was eating at a the McDonald’s at 4817 W. 105th St. in Oak Lawn, according to a lawsuit filed in Cook County Circuit Court.

The suit claims that the restaurant failed to properly inspect and maintain the processing and cooking equipment as well as the sandwich to avoid injury.

Lecaj sustained severe and permanent oral injuries as well as great pain and anguish, according to the suit.

The 12-count suit claims product liability and negligence and seeks more than $600,000 in damages. The suit names the McDonald’s restaurant in Oak Lawn, McDonald’s Corporation, McDonald’s USA, LLC., and JDD Investment Company.

The general manager of the McDonald’s restaurant in Oak Lawn said she did not have a comment regarding the lawsuit.

Representatives of the Oak Brook- based McDonald’s Corporation and the JDD Investment Company were not immediately available for comment.

I bit into a McChicken sandwich a couple of years ago and broke a tooth. When I called the store back and told them about it they said I had to bring the sandwich in for their inspection. I filed a formal report and was contacted by their insurance company. I told them all I wanted was to get my broken tooth fixed. They called me back a few days later and said there was no basis for the claim based on what was(or was not) found in the sandwich they had me return. OF COURSE, THEY TOOK THE PROOF and now all I have is a “still” broken tooth.

Do you know how many times over the course of the past few years I’ve read a story like this, and after proper investigation it turns out that the person put the glass in the sandwitch themselves to make some $.
I’m no person who likes to stand up for multi-billion dollar corporations, but I wouldn’t be so quick to judge McD’s.

Wouldn’t there have been some kind of report by law enforcement or some official at the time of the incident? I know this sounds judgemental, but this smells like a Gypsi plot/scam. I don’t buy this claim at all!
