Woman Sues Over Profanity-Laced Facebook Posting

CHICAGO (STMW) - A woman filed a lawsuit Thursday claiming that her cousin posted a defamatory message about her on his Facebook page, a message she claims harmed her reputation.

Angela Matthopoulos claims her cousin Chris P. Douvris wrote a "false and defamatory message" about her on his Facebook page on Nov. 12, 2010, according to the suit filed Thursday in Cook County Circuit Court.

The suit claims that in the profanity-laced posting on Douvris' page on the social media site, he said Matthopoulos takes "cheap shots" at people, is "promiscuous" and fixes "papers for illegals as a job."

Matthopoulos claims the statements are false and defamatory, even though they are visible only to people approved by Douvris to view his Facebook page.

The suit claims Matthopoulos' reputation was greatly injured by the statements that accuse her of "committing a crime," "engaging in fornication" and "lacking integrity in her employment duties."

The suit seeks more than $50,000 in damages.
