UPDATED 02/14/11 6:28 a.m.

CHICAGO (CBS) - Three people – including two Chicago Police officers – were injured and hospitalized overnight, after an accident involving an unmarked squad car in the South Side’s Roseland neighborhood.

As CBS 2’s Susanna Song reports, the two officers and a civilian were all taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition.

A fire chief said the two officers were released from the hospital around 3:30 a.m. Their condition was improving all night, and before they were released, they were alert and talking, officials said.

The third victim remained hospitalized as of 6 a.m. An updated condition for that victim was not immediately available.

Tactical officers in a unmarked Chicago Police car with its lights and sirens activated were responding to a call at 9:32 p.m. when it crashed into a non-police vehicle in the 11100 block of South Champlain Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said.

The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.

The Sun-Times Media Wire contributed to this report.

Notice that the article admits that the police car smashed into the other car. When you hit another car, you’re at fault, regardless of whether your flashng lights and sirens are on or off. A motorist is responsible for being in control of his car at all times, and that applies equally to police officers. Knowing the police spokespersons, they generally try to make the public think that the officers who caused the accident are seriously injured to evoke public sympathy and take the public’s mind off the fact that the police are responsible for the accident. In particular, the person we should all be worrying about is the citizen victim, who had to be extracted from the car. I hope and pray he or she is O.K., and then I hope he or she sues the living hell out of the Chicago Police Department. My thoughts and prayers are with that citizen victim.

A motorist must YIELD to emergency vehicles when lights and siren are activated failure to do so is violating the law. Just because the police car was the striking vehicle does not make it it’s fault. Mr. Stengel, if I run a stop sign and you hit me, who’s fault is it? According to you it’s your fault because a motorist has to be in control of his vehicle at all times. If someone makes a left turn in front of you and you hit them then I guess it’s your fault because you are the striking vehicle. Did it ever occur to you that the citizen victim may have done something wrong to cause the accident? Don’t lay the blame on the police unless you have all the facts.

So shut the f@$k up! Unless you have ALL THE FACTS.

wow Ed…how would you feel if you were driving at work, doing your job, and you had a car accident….would you like being sued?

  • Fred

How did you get that from that article? So if I run into a car that violated my right of way I am at fault? Just admit it, you hate the cops. You don’t know what happened.

  • g.b.

so,ed, if i pray only for the police officers involved, do our prayers cancel each other out? our we asking God to somehow choose sides? i don’t think the officers involved set out to injury the “citizen victim”. blame aside, i will pray for all.

When is a driver who T-Bones the other driver right, when the driver who is doing the T-Boning is also the Po-Po. The police hit this woman broad side. The police are wrong. They’re the ones who blew the intersection. Even with sirens and lights, they still must use caution at all intersections.

You guys are dopes and you’re proving it every day by your post. If the news happens in an African-American community you jerks post racist B.S.
