Car Lodged Under Semi On Eisenhower

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A motorist whose car became lodged beneath a semi truck and was dragged for 200 feet down the Eisenhower Expressway early Monday morning has been charged with driving under the influence, state police said.

The crash happened around 2:50 a.m. near Central Park Avenue on the eastbound side of the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290), Illinois State Police District Chicago Trooper Mark Hall said.

The driver, a Chicago man in his early 20s, lost control of his car, an older model Buick, and the vehicle became lodged under a semi truck, said State Trooper Steve Caramelli. The vehicle was dragged for about 200 feet, Caramelli said.

State Police and the Chicago Fire Department responded to the call. The driver had to be extricated from the vehicle, Caramelli said.

The driver, whose identity was not known Monday morning, suffered minor cuts and scrapes to his face. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was determined to be under the influence of alcohol, Caramelli said.

The driver was arrested for failing to reduce speed and driving under the influence, Caramelli said.

State Police are investigating.
