Walter Spins A Short Yarn About The Mayoral Candidates

CHICAGO (CBS) -- It's hard to distinguish one from the other. They all sound the same about the police and the schools and the budget. And they all look the same.

They're all short – not a one of them even 6 feet tall. Miguel's about five-nine; Gery and Rahmbo about five-eight. Carol's just five-two, like Mayor Byrne. Mayor Daley the First was five-eight; the son is maybe five-eight.

You may not have noticed they're all short, but I've noticed because it takes one to know one.

We little people are always looking for ways to feel big, like running for mayor of Chicago or picking on mayors on TV.

That famous tune by Randy Newman, remember? And all that stuff about the taller you are the better you are? You know, tall, dark and handsome. I say the shorter you are, the harder you try, the better you can be.

Miguel and Gery and Rahm and Carol -– between 5-feet-9 and 5-feet-2 –- little people trying to step into some big shoes and a $650 million deficit.

They'll need to be better, or at least as good as they say they are.
