Holmes: Bears In Costa Rica Blog Final Day

By Laurence Holmes--

Today marks the final day of the Bears fan trip to Costa Rica. It's been a whole week of fun and sunshine.

Last night, we went into to Cocoa Beach which is about 30 minutes away. We ate dinner at a beautiful beachfront restaurant.  The staff put a special menu together: cucumber wrapped crab meat as an appetizer then a choice of fresh seafood (lobster, mahi mahi and shrimp) or a bacon wrapped filet. They even made a special birthday cake for Charles Tillman, with the Bears logo surrounding the candle. All this while dining under the stars.  Speaking of which, it's amazing how many stars we miss living in Chicago. Without the city lights, the whole sky is lit up.  I found a deck chair and just gazed for a few minutes.

The meal was so satisfying that Johnny Knox retired to a nearby hammock for a post-meal nap.

Tonight, all the fans and all the players will gather at the pool for a final cocktail party and then tomorrow,we head back home.

I'd like to thank Apple Vacations for this incredible experience. It's nice to get a refresher course in seeing things through the fan's eye. Thanks to Karen Spinelli and Sue Kitsemble for putting together this fantastic excursion. They've done this trip for the last 5 years and have been to Mexico, Jamaica and here to Costa Rica. I don't know where next year's trip will be, but I can assure you it will be tropical, fun and give you a ton of access to the players.  If you're interested in going next year email Sue at skitsemb@applevac.com. To see pictures from the trip check out applevacations.com/bears to check them out.

I'd also like to thank the staff at RIU-Guancaste. The GM Till Koehler runs this property well. He took time to tell me not only about the resort, but also about the history of Costa Rica. Everything was first-rate. Our hostess Lourdes treated us like kings and queens the entire time and gave us tips on how to enjoy the area outside of the resort.

I'm looking forward to getting back home and doing the show. I've missed being on the airwaves. When I get back, I'll tell you all about my trip and I have a special announcement that I want to share. See you Monday night at 6.
