CHICAGO (CBS) — Chicago’s finest rock, WXRT-FM, is paying homage to all things Chicago, with a full day of programming dedicated to the city.

Chicago Day” kicks off on 93XRT March 2 at 9 a.m. with Lin Brehmer and Mary Dixon and continues through 9:00 p.m.

Mayor Daley, Jerry Reinsdorf, Robert Falls, Dan Hampton, Little Steven Van Zandt, Joe Shanahan, Patti Smith, Tony Fitzpatrick, Michael McDermott, Tim Tuten, Ramsey Lewis, and many more will be heard speaking from the heart on what Chicago means to them.

Chicago Day will also showcase a wide range of music from Chicago artists past and present, primarily from the rock, blues, and folk genres.

“The passion, the loyalty, and the commitment by the people who live here help make this the greatest city in the world. On Chicago Day, we will try to express in words and music what this city means to each of us,” Norm Winer, WXRT VP of Programming.

march 4th seems to be a better “chicago day” tribute as its the date the city was incorporated back in 1837 – look at the city seal

I think April 1st would be a better Chicago Day since we’re all fools for continuing to live in this hell hole!

  • Staying Power

45yrs old male. grew up in Roselle (25miles direct east of the Loop) was raised on WXRT and have to give them credit for their staying power…However i always laughted when they would have “featured artist day” and lets say that day was Jerry Garcia, you be lucky if you heard 10 jerry tunes in a 10hour span, however if the featured artist was Midnight Oil or U2 they play one of their tunes everyother tune.. i choose to follow Barry Winograd over to 90.0 WDCB best lil secret in chi land, jazz, blues, reggae, bluegrass, heavy metal, acid jazz……commerical free….

I would love to hear the late Pat Hall & his music. He was all Chicago. You played some of his music on the day that he died – 1/25/10.
