Bowman: Blackhawks 'Very Excited' About Deadline Upgrade

On a day with few big trades before the trade deadline, the Chicago Blackhawks' Stan Bowman was able to add a puck moving defenseman to his team. And given the deadline climate, that's a win for the Blackhawks.

"We set out to get a defenseman and we accomplished that," Bowman said on the Mully and Hanley Show. "We tried to do some other things but it was a difficult year this year, there's only a few teams that are out of the race, really, in either conference. So that meant that there were not too many teams willing to trade players away. And we made it clear we weren't willing to trade away from our current group, we wanted to add to it. I think there were not nearly as many trades made [on Monday], so the fact that we were able to come out with a solid defenseman who's going to upgrade our team, we're very excited about that."

The newest Blackhawk, Chris Campoli, was acquired from the Ottawa Senators for a Ryan Potulny and a conditional 7th round draft pick. Campoli wasn't with the Blackhawks for Monday night's win over the Minnesota Wild.
