DePaul's Melvin And Young Named to Big East All-Rookie Team

Two of DePaul's star players were named to the Big East All-Rookie team, Cleveland Melvin and Brandon Young, as the league announced all-conference honors. The stars led all BIG EAST freshmen in scoring the entire season.

Melvin was the only unanimous pick for the All-Rookie Team after averaging 14.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game this season. In league play, he ranked among the league's leaders with 17.4 points per game. Melvin was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week four times and missed the final three BIG EAST games with a sprained left thumb.

Young, a two-time BIG EAST Rookie of the Week, led all BIG EAST rookies in assists per game this season and was second behind Melvin in scoring. Young averaged 12.4 points and 3.7 assists per game in all games and 11.7 points and 3.56 assists per game in BIG EAST games only.

Melvin and Young are the fourth and fifth DePaul players to be named to the BIG EAST All-Rookie Team. They follow Wilson Chandler (2006), Dar Tucker (2008) and Mac Koshwal (2008).

Six players were named to the All-BIG EAST First Team. The BIG EAST Player of the Year will come from that group. The conference will announce Player of the Year, Oppenheimer Funds/BIG EAST Coach of the Year, BIG EAST Rookie of the Year and American Eagle Outfitters BIG EAST Scholar-Athlete of the Year on Tuesday, March 8. The announcement will be made between sessions of the first day of The BIG EAST Championship Presented by American Eagle Outfitters at Madison Square Garden. The press conference will begin after the postgame interviews of the afternoon doubleheader have been completed. The other individual awards will be announced Monday, March 7.

DePaul opens BIG EAST Championship action on Tuesday at Noon ET against Connecticut.
