Norwood Park Man Dead On Scene Of Wreck

CHICAGO (STMW) - A motorist died when the Jeep he was driving collided with another car early Sunday near United Center on the Near West Side.

At 2:50 a.m. a man driving a Jeep of an unidentified model was southbound on Wolcott Avenue when he missed a stop sign at Washington Boulevard and a Toyota Prius westbound on Washington hit him, according to police News Affairs Officer Daniel Sullivan.

The Jeep rolled and the man driving it, identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office as Shane Henry, suffered massive head injuries when he went through a sunroof, according to Sullivan.

Henry, 22, was dead on the scene, according to a spokeswoman for the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. No passengers were in the Jeep.

The driver and the sole passenger inside the Prius were taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, Sullivan said.

Alcohol was possibly involved, according to Sullivan who said the people in the Prius are not facing charges.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
