Chicago Area Companies Hiring Again

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Some good news tonight if you are looking for a job. Chicago area companies are preparing to hire again.

As CBS 2's Dorothy Tucker reports, 14 percent of Chicago area firms told the job placement firm Manpower that they are putting out the help wanted sign.

It's good news across the board. From entry level positions to six figure jobs, dozens of companies in the Chicago area have job openings right now.

Business is good at Laurus Strategies, a consulting firm that has grown from 250 to 300 clients in the last year. More clients means a need for more consultants and analysts.

Managing partner Scott Carter said the top positions they are looking to fill are health care analysts.

"We're looking for people with financial backgrounds who can understand how insurance claims are paid," Carter said.

Laurus is one of many companies finally hanging out the proverbial "Help Wanted" sign.

"It's cautiously optimistic out there," said Anne Edmunds, regional director of Manpower.

According to that company's research, you can expect to find job openings in almost every industry, like sakes, from retailers that pay minimum wages, to pharmaceuticals firms, where you can earn six figures.

"People are trying to increase their distribution and awareness of products," Edmunds said.

You'll also find positions in financial services for loan processors where they're paying $17 an hour.

Manufacturing companies are offering entry level positions like packers, where they'll pay $9 an hour, or truck drivers who can make $15 an hour.

There's also a big demand for craftsmen, like CNC operators who have computer skills, welders, and electricians.

"A very good CNC operator certainly makes anywhere from $25 to $35 an hour," Edmunds said.
