Freshman Rep. Schilling Talks About Afghanistan

WASHINGTON (WBBM) – Freshman U.S. Rep. Bobby Schilling (R-Rock Island) is just back from a tour of Afghanistan.
As WBBM Newsradio 780’s Regine Schlesinger reports, Schilling is now talking about his impressions. He says he is impressed by the progress in Afghanistan, and thinks a 2014 deadline for getting American troops out is feasible.

He said he thinks the American troops are doing a good job of training an Afghan force.
“They’re catching on pretty quickly. We got to see them actually run several different experiments as if they were being attacked and how they would respond,” Schilling said.
Schilling is a conservative who subscribes to many goals and views of the Tea Party, although he does not consider himself a Tea Party member.
He is the father of 10 children, and before he went to Congress, he ran his own pizza parlor in Moline. Schilling’s 21-year-old son runs the business in his father’s absence.
So what does Schilling think of the pizza in Washington, D.C.?
“Decent, but it’s not as good as having it back in the Quad Cities,” Schilling said.
