City's Unemployment Rate At 9.4%
CHICAGO (STMW) - January's unemployment level in the Chicago area fell to 9.4 percent — down from 11.6 percent a year earlier, the Illinois Employment Security Department reported Thursday. But unemployment rose from 8.6 percent in December.
The area gained 41,000 non-farm jobs in January, compared with the same month last year. Industries leading the job growth include educational and health services, manufacturing, retail trade, and professional and business services, the state agency said.
