Gadget Fans Line Up To Purchase iPad 2

Skokie, Ill. (CBS) - Fans of the latest gadget from Apple were lined up outside its store at Old Orchard Mall hours before the new iPad went on sale.

Leading the line was Gabriel Peal, a Northwestern engineering student who showed up at 7am - getting there even before store employees.

By 3:30, there were roughly 100 people waiting in the sunny courtyard outside the Apple store in the outdoor suburban mall.

Most were passing the time with their laptops, smart phones and other wireless devices.

Julian lives in Chicago, but came to Skokie because he figured the line would be shorter there than the city stores.

A number of those in line said they thought about buying the iPad online earlier in the day, but did not want to wait for delivery, which was expected to take at least two weeks.

Customers talked about the slimmer, lighter designer and new camera as the features they're most excited about.

Apple employees briefly closed the store ahead of the 5pm sales launch. They would not say how many tablets they had in stock.
