Food Prices Expected To Stay High
CHICAGO (WBBM) -- The price of food is up, according to the federal government, and economists do not see a decline anytime soon.
As WBBM Newsradio 780's Mary Frances Bragiel reports, the U.S. Department of Labor reports wholesale food prices jumped in February, nearly 4 percent from the previous month. That represents the largest monthly increase in 37 years.

Economists say the price of ingredients continues to rise, and they point to a number of reasons – including the fall of the U.S. dollar, political unrest in the Middle East, high crude oil prices and violent weather patterns.
To help curb the problem, researchers are looking at more powerful technology, such as the use of biotech seeds to grow wheat and rice.
