United Jet From O’Hare Skids Off Runway In Ohio

GREEN, Ohio (CBS) — A United Express plane flying from O’Hare International Airport skidded off the runway as it landed in Ohio early Friday.

No one was injured when the flight, United Express Flight 5916, operated by ExpressJet, went off the side of the runway shortly after landing at Akron-Canton Regional Airport around 12:10 a.m. EST, said ExpressJet spokesman Jarek Beem.

The plane was carrying 44 passengers, one infant in arms, and three flight crew members, CBS affiliate WOIO-TV, Cleveland, reported.

Everyone exited the plane through the regular passenger boarding door and were taken back to the passenger terminal, Beem said.

The National Transportation Safety Board, a federal agency that investigates transportation accidents, has been notified and will investigate, Beem said.

The airport is open and operating as normal Friday morning, WOIO reported.
