Visitors To Camp Out At Lincoln Park Zoo

CHICAGO (CBS) -- If you should happen to notice some people sleeping in tents outside Lincoln Park Zoo, don't be alarmed.

They're just out to have a good time at the zoo's Sleep under the Skyscrapers event.

The sold-out event begins with dinner, followed by opportunities to meet nocturnal animals up close.

Visitors will get to feel the scales of a blue-tongued skink at the Regenstein Small Mammal-Reptile House, and watch the chimpanzees go to bed in their nests at the Regenstein Center for African Apes.

Zoo experts will share stories, and visitors will wind down with a movie and a bedtime snack before going to sleep in their tents on the zoo's South Lawn.

In the morning, participants will wake up with animals and have breakfast before leaving for the day.

The program geared toward families with children ages 5 to 12. While this particular event is sold out, you can find out about future events at the Lincoln Park Zoo Web site or at (312) 742-2056.
