Armed Robber Shoots Himself In Foot In Rogers Park

CHICAGO (CBS) -- An 18-year-old man who allegedly shot and robbed another man in Rogers Park earlier this week also shot himself in the foot in the process, police said.

Dvante Swansey, 18, has been ordered held on $250,000 bond, charged with armed robbery and aggravated battery with a firearm.

About 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, Swansey allegedly shot a man in his 20s in the abdomen in the 1400 block of West Estes Avenue, authorities said. The victim was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston.

Swansey also shot himself in the foot during the robbery, police said. He took himself to Saint Francis Hospital, where he told police that he and his friend had arranged to buy marijuana from the robbery victim.

Swansey claimed after his friend shot the man to "take his weed,'' Swansey removed a gun from his clothing and shot himself in the foot, police said.

Swansey, of 1149 W. Lunt Ave., was arrested at Saint Francis at 8:55 p.m Wednesday. His next court date is set for March 23.
