Woman Killed, Man Burned In Naperville Fire

NAPERVILLE, Ill. (STMW) -- An elderly woman died and her husband was severely burned in a house fire Thursday morning in west suburban Naperville.

Naperville fire officials received a call shortly before 9:30 a.m. for a house fire in the 200 block of James Lane. When they arrived, firefighters could see smoke and flames shooting from all windows of the two-story frame house.

The man was able to get out of the home and called 911, as did a neighbor who heard window glass smashing during the fire. They attempted to rescue the woman, but were unable because the fire was too intense.

The husband was transported to Edward Hospital with severe burns and was expected to be airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center's Burn Unit. The couple is believed to be in their 80s.

Fire officials said they do not have a cause for the fire or a point of origin as yet since the house was nearly destroyed.
