Chicagoans Line Up For Mega Millions Tickets

CHICAGO (WBBM) -- The Mega Millions lottery is living up to its name, with the jackpot at an estimated $312 million.

As WBBM Newsradio 780's Nancy Harty reports, plenty of hopeful players were lining up to buying tickets at a Loop convenience store Friday.

They snapped up Mega Millions tickets by the handful, with dreams of what to do with all that money.

One man said he planned to "give a lot of it away, really, to help people that are less fortunate."

Many of the would-be millionaires are familiar with the story of Irving Przyborski of Chicago, who nearly missed a Thursday deadline to collect $9 million in Illinois Lottery winnings before his ticket expired.

"He had it with his income tax papers from last year," a man said. "Good for him."

So the Mega Millions customers are checking tickets and making sure they don't have any stashed away.

"Not that I know of; let's hope not," a woman said.

The Mega Millions drawing is Friday night.
