CHICAGO (WBBM) — The Cubs on Friday will announce the winner of their wide-open competition to become the public address announcer at Wrigley Field.
As WBBM Newsradio 780’s Bernie Tafoya reports, nearly 3,000 people submitted videos and audio clips of themselves auditioning to be the new Wrigley Field announcer. The final 25 did a live audition at the ballpark last week.

This week, the final four candidates did an audition again.
“Our top four finalists – two are from the Chicago area, one is from downstate in the Champaign area, and one is from Kentucky,” said Cubs executive vice president Wally Hayward.
Hayward says, “This really is a part time gig for people, but it’s probably the best part-time gig you could have.”
He admits the PA announcer job is NOT high-paying, but says, “This is not about the money. It’s about you becoming part of historic Wrigley Field, being part of the Cubs family, and being the voice at Wrigley Field.”
If you want to check out the auditions, many of which are entertaining and some of which are out in left field, you can find them on YouTube.
You’re likely to find many of them clever and entertaining, including on guy practicing his Wrigley Field lines while driving, while showering and shaving, and even while sleeping.
