Student Hurt At Simeon High School

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Paramedics took a student to a hospital Friday morning from Simeon Career Academy in the Auburn-Gresham neighborhood.

Details were unclear as to how the student was injured, but at 8:57 a.m., firefighters were called to 8147 S. Vincennes Ave. to assist police, according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado.

Police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak said the injured person is a student.

They were taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Centers in Evergreen Park, according to Rosado. Their condition was not life-threatening.

Police would not confirm reports of a suicide attempt at the scene.

Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel was scheduled to visit the school at 1:30 p.m. to attend a rally to celebrate the boy's basketball team's Class 4A state championship.
