Michigan Woman Killed In West Side Crash

CHICAGO (STMW) - A Michigan woman was killed early Sunday when the car she was driving slammed into a light pole on the West Side has been identified.

The 26-year-old Michigan woman identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office as Abigail Watson was driving a 2006 Audi A3 north on Grand Avenue when she struck a light pole on the southwest corner of West Grand and North Artesian avenues about 1:40 a.m., police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.

Witnesses told police the car was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and veered into oncoming traffic before crashing into the pole, police said.

Watson, of Niles, Mich., woman, was dead on the scene, according to the medical examiner's office. An autopsy is scheduled for later Sunday.

Nobody else was in the car and nobody else was injured, Mirabelli said.

The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.
