BLUE ISLAND, Ill. (CBS) – A person was struck and killed by a Metra train in south suburban Blue Island early Monday.

The pedestrian was struck near the overpass over Interstate 57, on the border between Calumet Park and Blue Island, CBS 2’s Kris Habermehl reports.

Train No. 202 on the Metra Electric District Blue Island service line was stopped about 5:45 a.m., near 124th Street and Ashland Avenue, according to Metra spokesman Tom Miller. The train was on the move again about 6:35 a.m. following a 53-minute delay.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed a person was killed near the 124th Street address, but did not release any information about the person’s age or gender.

The Sun-Times Media Wire contributed to this report.

When will people learn they have to look both ways when crossing the tracks?

Beckie

At 5.45 AM is too early to get struck by some train. We all know that people get up and run to the metra station and do not take time to see if any train is coming. There should be a sing that tells that trains come and go at all times ao people will be aware of their surroundings while they are near an overpass. Some of these people are half sleep and need some rest and do not see or hear the train coming.
Please let the passengers beware of their surroundings.
My deep condolences for the loss of this person.
May God receive them into His glory.

THANKS METRA FOR NOT INFORMING ITS RIDERS ON THE ROCK ISLAND ENTERING BLUE ISLAND WHO WERE GETTING OFF AT THE 127TH STREET STATION TO BOARD THE IC THAT IT WAS NOT RUNNING. NOT ONE CONDUCTOR ON THE ROCK ISLAND INFORMED THE MANY PASSENGERS GETTING OFF THAT THE IC WAS NOT RUNNING NOR WERE THERE ANY CONDUCTORS AT THE IC TRAIN TO INFORM THE PASSENGERS.

GREAT SERVICE METRA !!!!!!!

What does your comment have to do with looking both ways before crossing?

Not Gonna Sugar-Coat It

This seems to happen about once every few weeks on the Metra and CTA.

Very few times does it wind up being an accident.

Most are suicides. Both equally tragic.

This should be a wake up to the teabagging nitwits that want to give huge tax breaks to huge corporations like GE and Exxon Mobil, and at the same time want to slash every kind of social and mental health program for the disadvantaged and downtrodden in our communities.

And for you teabagging knuckleheads that want to rant and rave on how the corporate tax is the highest in the world, why is it a company like GE, one of the largest in the world, wound up getting a tax REFUND of millions of dollars.

Cry me a river.
And while your at it, shed a tear for people who aren’t millionaires, who desperately need help; socially, physically, emotionally.

You teabaggers make me sick!

What does this story have to do with politics? I think you may be on the wrong story goofball.

Mitt

Your an idiot. All the money in the world is going help someone who is mentally deranged like yourself. You could care less about poor people. This is just the standard liberal line that has been going on forever. We did help these people.
It was car welfare and the great society which was a total failure – again just like you.

Take Your Tea and Shove It!

To Mitt:

Again proving stereotypes true.
“You’re” is a contraction. What kind of a dumba$s doesn’t know that?
Instead of blaming the poor for your problems, you should be picking up a dictionary.
Hell, I’d settle for a spell-check.
That’s asking a lot though from idiot right-wingers such as yourself.
