Cops: Caretaker Abuses Disabled Girl, Mom Captures It On Video

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 56-year-old West Englewood neighborhood woman was charged with physically abusing a disabled 13-year-old girl after the child's mother captured the alleged incident on videotape, police said.

The alleged abuse occurred March 28 in the 3800 block of West 47th Street, according to police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala.

The 13-year-old disabled girl's mother was able to videotape Akemi Johnson physically abusing the child, Zala said. The girl was not hospitalized and Zala declined to say what Johnson allegedly did.

Johnson, of the 6100 block of South Marshfield Avenue, was charged with one felony count of criminal abuse or neglect, Zala said. Johnson appeared in bond court Saturday but court information was not immediately available.

The victim suffers from cerebral palsy, according to a police source, who said she was battered and her hair was pulled.

Wentworth Area detectives are investigating.
