CHICAGO, Ill. (STMW)– Two children were shot while playing in their front yard Sunday afternoon in the Grand Boulevard neighborhood on the South Side.

The children, a 13-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy, were playing in their front yard in the 5100 block of South Calumet Avenue around 4:18 p.m. when unknown offenders approached with guns and started firing, police said.

The girl was shot in the arm and the boy sustained a graze wound to the buttocks, police said. Both were taken to University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital.

The victims are not thought to be the intended targets, police said.

Wentworth Area detectives are investigating, but no one is in custody Sunday evening.

Our children are lambs being led to the slaughter. the self hatred these people display towards their own people is mind boggling. We marched to be treated as equals and all we have managed to do is become labeled murderers, drug addicts, drug dealers, and uneducated heartless beasts. We the people of the African American race should do everything required of us to weed this disese out of our neighborhoods. Everyone should have camera surveillance around their homes and houses so that we can have our cameras hooked up the police district we live in. This would require the CPD to do their jobs and for parents to start to do their job and report every crime in our neighborhood.

i live across the street from that place and since i’ve moved here this block and area is not safe at all.u cant go outside without something happening on this block or the next one. No one is safe. I cant wait until i’m able to move out the area. I have a son and our kids especially our young men dont stand a chance.we need to pray for each other no leaders come together for that over here.

CPD Officers are humans too, sadly the new recruits are assigned to these kinds of neighborhoods and more sadly kids are being raised here. There is no hope for these lunatics, they kill everyone! Police, kids, innocent bystanders, pit bull rings etc. the list goes on! Yes it was 80 degrees today, the thugs go get high and drunk and then brawl! All that criminal intent stored over the cold winter months, comes out when the weather gets nice! Sickening. These beasts don’t work either.

I lived in the suburbs and we are allowed to have guns as long as we have a FOID card. I’m a Black man who live in Naperville… what I don’t understand is why are we allowed to have gun and areas with a high concentration of Black people are not allowed.It’s simply not fair!!!!!
Why are white people allowed to arm themselves and Black people are not allowed unless they move to white neighborhoods???? Every major city in the United States seems to operate the same way!!!!!!
Is the constitution only for white people?!!!!! Are they afraid that if there’s ever a race riot like in the past, Black will be able to defend themselves?
Bottom line Naperville is only 35 mile from Chicago and we are allowed to defend ourselves. Why can’t law abiding citizens in Chicago have that SAME RIGHT?!!!! There’s something wrong with this scenario!

Erm, about the race riots…are you predicting some Hollywood neo-Nazi-vs-everyone version? The race riots 40 years ago were started by small groups of blacks, Black Panther, BP posers, etc (gangs? I dont know, I was 1 year old). The ones in LA after the OJ verdict were started by black gang members (which were going to riot anyways regardless of the outcome). I predict if there is one again, it will once again be the gangs. The notion that “neo-Nazis” would do anything like this are absurd. Heck, most of the members of Aryan Nations are undercover FBI agents anyways. I dont even think they have any real members.

I’m speaking of the Chicago race riot of 1919, that Daley father and friend started,the riot of Greenwood, a district in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1907, and the famous Rosewood riot in Florida. There were many more, google them. I appreciate your comment.

@ dawarrior. I appreciate your comments. I think Mayor Daley and his goons are the problem with “Gun Control”. They took the guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens (who were dumb enough to turn them in ) who now have no way of protecting themselves. The 2nd Amendment is for everyone! Color does not matter. Perhaps we need someone like Charles Bronson (I know it is Hollywood) to go into the bad areas and clean it up. OR the citizens of Chicago to unite and get rid of the thugs themselves. The police do what they can, BUT they can’t be there all the time, and they can’t be anywhere within 60 seconds when one needs to protect themselves, their family, or property.
