Don't Miss This

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) – Police say a man who’d been drinking accidentally fired his .45 caliber handgun at a gun and knife show inside the Evansville National Guard Armory, slightly injuring a 72-year-old man and 16-year-old boy.

It happened Saturday at the Tri-State Gun and Knife Show.

The Evansville Courier & Press says 30-year-old Joshua Wilkinson of Boonville is charged with criminal recklessness.

Police say he removed a round from the gun and applied a flex tie before entering. Show organizer Tom Allman says despite a sign banning loaded weapons, Wilkinson cut off the band and inserted a clip.

Police say Wilkinson had a 0.05 percent blood alcohol level. Indiana sets the level for drunkenness at 0.08 percent.

There’s no listed telephone number for Wilkinson, and he couldn’t be reached for comment.

thats just great, an ahole like this is all the anti-gun people need. just when illinois is looking to pass concealed carry. along comes this f’ng moron, white trash sob. no one talks about the decent legal citizens that would like to carry, but this trash has to come along. where were the security people that supposed to check firearms brought in? i hope the judge throws the book at this guy and the two that were hurt sue the pants off of the venue and this dirtbag.
by the way, why are they calling it an “accident”. it was no accident that he did what he did. stupid people make me so mad. was his name forrest?

    • tvis

Why do you think he was white? Shut up with your racial stereotyping.

Why do you hope the “venue” gets sued? Because you DONT want gun shows ever again in Illinois? You’re an idiot when it comes to standing up for “pro-gun” rights. Think, stupid. THINK.

      • HAter

Because only white people are stupid enough to drink and accidentally fire weapons at a gun show.

      • steve

Another story about the ID’ed him as white. And he’s trash.

      • PBO from Australia

Dude, I’m white and even i think he is stupid, white trash. Not racist if its true and he’s from Boonsville to top it off.

  • Mr. Justice

Yes, he was an idiot. BUT we cannot one idiot spoil things for the rest of us law abiding citizens who know how to handle firearms safely. This one accident does not compare to the thugs that used firearms ILLEGALLY here in the Chicago area this weekend. No, we can still get Conceal Carry passed if law abiding citizens will call their State Representatives and State Senators and tell them you want them to vote for Conceal Carry here in Illinois. NOW FOR THE PUKING LIBERALS WHO WILL BE READING THIS ARTICLE AND MAKING COMMENTS, BE ADVISED: There are 48 states that already have some form of Conceal Carry and Wisconsin, actually has a form of “open carry”. Chicago has tried to usurp the 2nd Amendment for years, BUT we will no longer stand for it. OH, and by the way, Chicago has one of the highest violent crime rates in Illinois. Those cities that allow Conceal Carry, guess what, their crime rate is much less than Chicago and Illinois.

    • Jon

“Chicago has one of the highest violent crime rates in Illinois. Those cities that allow Conceal Carry, guess what, their crime rate is much less than Chicago and Illinois.”

      Two words:
      1. Phoenix
      2. Asshat

      • Mr. Justice

Well, I can see that you are an idiot as well. Why don’t you look at a map you will see that Phoenix is near the Mexican Border. So, where do you think a lot of their crime comes from. By the way, get your facts straight bone head. Click on the link below and you will see that Chicago has a high crime rate. Also, Chicago wouldn’t even report their findings in 2009 for Forcible Rape and Total Violent Crime. Makes one wonder if they are “cooking the books”.

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_cities_by_crime_rate

Put that in your puking liberal pipe and smoke it!

    • steve

For those with an attention span longer than it takes to read a bumper sticker, you’ll find an in-depth analysis (more in-depth than calling people “idiots” and “asshats”) here: http://islandia.law.yale.edu/ayers/Ayres_Donohue_article.pdf

It will take some time to read if you actually care about the topic, so don’t bother if you have a fixed opinion that can’t be swayed by facts.

  • Drive By For Ribs And Tacos

I always enjoying reading about Rednecks, Drinking, Guns. I thought true American Spirit was all but gone. I am thankful that that American Spirit is 250 Miles to the south. We in the Chicago land area have little to fear from the Rednecks, as there pickup trucks cant make up here due to bald tires and possible engine failure. We in Chicago need only fear the homeys and the vatos that now rule the streets. Maybe the Rednecks would be the better choice.

  • ROGER

LEFT HOUSTON IN 1992 AND THEY PASSED CC IN 1993. GUESS WHAT? STREET CRIME DROPPED 85%. CHICAGO PRESS WOULD NEVER PRINT THAT.

    • Mr. Justice

You are correct Roger. Good comments. Unfortunately, the puking liberals here in Illinois do not think logically.

    • HAter

That is a BS made up statistic, typical white people, always liars.

    • Wikiboy

Houston’s murder rate ranked 46th of U.S. cities with a population over 250,000 in 2005 (per capita rate of 16.3 murders per 100,000 population).[193] The city’s murder rate was ranked in 2005 to be 3rd among U.S. cities with a population of over 1,000,000. This ranking could be higher as KHOU-TV found the Houston Police Department under-counted 2005 homicides; counting two more would have bumped up the rate to second place.[194] While nonviolent crime in the city dropped by 2 percent in 2005 compared to 2004, homicides rose by 23.5 percent.[195] Since 2005, Houston has experienced a significant rise in crime, which the Houston Police Department partly attributed to an influx of people from New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina.[196] After Katrina, Houston’s murder rate increased 70 percent in November and December 2005 compared to levels in 2004. The city recorded 336 murders in 2005,[195] compared to 272 in 2004.[197] Houston’s homicide rate per 100,000 residents increased from 16.33 in 2005 to 17.24 in 2006.[198] The number of murders in the city increased to 379 in 2006.[195] The Times-Picayune disputed that Katrina refugees were to blame for the rise in crime, citing statistics that crime was rising in Houston before their arrival.[199] City officials claimed that though the majority of refugees were law-abiding citizens, Houston’s population swelled by 10 percent “virtually overnight,” reducing the ratio of police officers to citizens.[200] A 2010 study published in the Journal of Criminal Justice also disputed the assertion that Katrina refugees were the cause of rising crime in Houston around the mid-to-late 2000s decade, and instead pointed out factors such as growing population, rising unemployment, and decreased police patrol.[201]

Houston, due to its size and proximity to major illegal drug exporting nations, is a significant hub for trafficking of cocaine, marijuana, heroin, MDMA, and methamphetamine.[202] In 2007, Houston ranked first for auto-theft in the state of Texas when more than 31,000 motor vehicles were stolen in the metropolitan area.[203] In 2010, the area within Houston with the least amounts of crime incidents was at the intersection of Westheimer Road and State Highway 6.[204] In the early 1970s, Houston, Pasadena and several coastal towns were the site of the ‘Houston Mass Murders’ which at the time were the deadliest case of serial killing in American history.[205][206]

    • steve

Dropped 85% over what period? Starting about that time, there was a dramatic drop in violent crime in every state. Most likely due largely to the economic boom during the Clinton presidency.

  • GASSSS

@DRIVEBYFOR TACO…….., THE VATOS N HOMEY R BOZOS, THAT “THINK” THEY R SOMETHING….. THEY R NOT, JUST A BUNCH OF LOSERS N JERKS STEALING,CHEATING, LYING, KILLING, N FOR WHAT? “NOTHING, BUT THEY THINK THEY’RE COOL” STUP!DS!!!!!!!!!!!! LOSERS1000000%!!!!!

  • Gabe

So what’s Chicago and it’s fine citizens have to do do with this white trash shooting someone in hoosierville.???

    • steve

News sites report news from all across the country. It’s standard practice. Maybe if you read the news more often, you’d know this.

  • Centurion

That idiot purposely loaded the weapon. He purposely put his finger on the trigger. Legal gun owner…thats fine….owning the gun is one thing….him being a complete MORON is another. He should be charged accordingly. Discharging a weapoon, assault, assault with a deadly weapon, etc etc etc. Hold him accountable. If this man were born in Indiana..he should be charged with being born in Indiana…which is a capital offense. His stupidity comes naturally.

  • ErnestPayne

Americans are a special brand of stupid when it comes to guns. The rest of the world views the country as the planetary insane asylum.

    • Thank you

Not so sure I agree with your comments Ernest. Seems to me, most of the world wants to migrate to America.

      • HAter

        Birds migrate, people immigrate.

      • Floyd D. Barber

to HAter, or cross the border illegally.

    • Floyd D. Barber

The rest of the world views the country as the planetary insane asylum.

The rest of the world can hug nut.

  • W. Earp

Well, until he shot those two, he was a responsible gun owner. And check the guns when you com in to town, boys.

  • B. Jack

Look at the all the shootings in Japan (a fraction compared to the US). Look at the infiltration of guns in El Salvador (from the L.A. gangs). Its the “arming” of America by the gun companies. 80 years ago if there was a dispute in the street it was handled with fists and maybe clubs.

    • BG

80 years ago, as in the 1920′s and 30′s? when you could buy guns at the hardware store with no background checks? during the time period that gave the thompson its nickname of “the Chicago Typewriter”? So what you are saying is that during the time period that Firearms were more available, cheaper in price, and there were no restrictions on Civilians owning high capacity, full automatic weapons, the world was a nicer place to live? yeah I think we agree…

  • Brian W.

Not really seeing the “accidental” part of this story. Pretty sure he purposely got drunk… knowing he was headed to a gun show.

    Sounds deliberate enough to me.

    • Fred

.05 is not drunk, it’s equivelant to a beer with lunch.

      • Dave

That’s a pretty big beer you got there Fred.

  • J-chi

This is a good example of why guns need to be banned. No one today needs a gun and they should all be confiscated. The US is one of the only civilized countries to allow civilians to own guns. We have higher crime and murder rates that any country in Europe or Asia and a significant amount of tax payer dollars goes toward treating gun shot victims on a daily basis in our hospitals.

    • Mike

Ok, I’m not even going to bother arguing your statistics, so instead I’ll ask you this. How many criminals are running around shooting people with their legally purchased firearms? How many law-abiding citizens are using their legally purchased firearms to defend themselves and their home every day? Banning guns won’t prevent criminals from buying and using firearms, it will only prevent law-abiding citizens from defending themselves against the criminals that couldn’t care less what the law says. Does it make sense to disarm an entire nation full of responsible gun owners just because some idiot had a negligent discharge? Don’t judge every gun owner based on one drunken idiot. BTW, when a drunk kills someone in a car, they don’t blame the car, they blame the drunk or the alcohol. How about banning alcohol? Or cars? Seems to me that alcohol causes many more problems than guns do, but maybe that’s just my position as a person that likes to keep my brain functioning properly, rather than artificially lowering my IQ by drinking a few bottles of what is essentially a poison.

BTW, I take offense to the redneck comments. I live out in the sticks and drive a 1990 F-150, but that doesn’t mean I’m an irresponsible idiot or a “redneck”, as people have so stupidly put it. In fact, I’m probably more educated than most of the idiots posting on this page. I’m also a responsible gun owner with a very large collection of firearms. I don’t drink or smoke, and I work hard every day to earn a decent living. If more people lived like I do, instead of having a cushy job in a big city, the United States of America would be a much nicer, safer place.

    • Floyd D. Barber

All guns should be confiscated? as all printing presses and computers. We have no need of freedom of speech either do we?

  • Munch

@Mr. Justice – Just keep telling yourself that all of those “puking liberals” are anti-2nd amendment, won’t you. I would strongly advise you that this BS talking point is just that, BS. Plenty of liberals are proud firearm owners, and take umbrage to your filthy lies. I can only hope that when you finally lift your flabby, triple chinned, sweat stained girth off of the lay-z-boy recliner and decide to “take back the country” or “water the tree of liberty”, you know, whatever traitorous garbage you close-minded tea-bag traitors seem to fantasize about, that the “puking liberals” (e.g. fellow U.S. Citizens) you decide to victimize will respond in kind and dispatch you and your fellow traitors to directly to hell, where you certainly belong.

    • Mr. Justice

Ha Ha! You crack me up. No where did I say i was a member of the Tea Party. Secondly, I do not own a recliner. Thirdly, I do not look at all the way you picture me to look. Fourthly, anytime you and a few of your friends want to attempt to send me to hell, please let me know. I would welcome the opportunity to have a “come to jesus” meeting with you. In conclusion, you really should try out for some local comedy clubs. You really did crack me up little man. Oh, one last item, please don’t be a punk and hide behind the internet. You are so funny!

      • Munch

I’m so sorry that I hurt your feelings, Mr. Justice. I was so sure that you wouldn’t mind a bit of hyperbole given the content of your previous posts. I do not actually want hurt you… unless you hurt me. I just wanted to let you know that I find your divisive rhetoric about “liberals this…”, “liberals that …” is a pack of mean spirited lies. Do you even know any liberals?, you know, besides the outrageous caricatures you hear on the TV or Internet? If actual liberals were anything like you seem to think they are, I would hate them too, but they are not!

As for the “come to Jesus” comment, I’m not really sure how to parse that. What exactly do you think it means to be a Christian? Do you think that bearing false witness (e.g. your mischaracterization of liberals) is a virtue? Do you think that your hate-filled, accusatory trashing of your fellow citizens remotely emulates Jesus? Anyhow, who are you to question my faith? Perhaps I was a bit mean-spirited myself with the whole “send you to hell” thing, and I apologize for that. Feel better? I am neither hiding behind the Internet, nor am I making jokes about this.

The whole Liberal vs. Conservative thing is getting out of hand in this country; It is a complete fabrication on the part corporate and foreign interests to divide us, the purpose of which I can only guess; I do not think this is a good thing, or something that should be emulated. If you are just trying to troll me in order to get a rise out of me, I understand that as well. Touche.

  • good_wife

There is a simple solution — a check box on the application

    Are you an Idiot Y/N

After a period of deep introspection I am sure that people will make the choice and the problem of letting idiots carry guns will just will go away.

  • Killian

    Clip? CLIP?? CLIP!?!?!?!?!?!?!?????????

With mediocre journalism like this, I’m surprised the weapon wasn’t reported an an AK-47.

    • Floyd D. Barber

And a full auto assault rifle also.

  • BROBS

    agreed, munch.

i would consider myself liberal and a supporter of the 2nd amendment.
you can be liberal, and still feel that people are entitled to rights.

  • Southside

Let me get this straight. A guy walks into a gun show in Indiana, loads his gun and fires it, injuring 2 people. This is an indictment of stinking liberals and gun control advocates how?
