CHICAGO (STMW)-- About $2.7 million worth of marijuana and other drugs, and $15,000 in cash were seized by Chicago Police in a series of targeted search warrant in West Side areas known for narcotics-related crimes.

On Thursday, the Narcotics Unit executed 56 search warrants on the West Side and recovered about 800 pounds of marijuana and other illicit drugs with an estimated street value of $2.7 millions; 20 guns, including two folding Kal Tec assault rifles; and $15,000.00 dollars in cash, a release from police said.

A total of 48 offenders were charged with drug and weapons offenses in the Unified Enforcement Mission in the Harrison and Ogden districts.

The missions are a strategic response to community concerns about violence in Area Four police districts, the release said. The Area Four Gang Enforcement Unit, Gang Investigation Unit and officers from the Harrison and Ogden districts assisted in the execution of warrants.
