NORTHFIELD, Ill. (STMW) – A Chicago woman was killed and a man critically injured following a head-on crash Friday in suburban Northfield.

Silvia Garcia, 22, was pronounced dead at 11:34 p.m. at Evanston Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

She was the driver in a vehicle that crashed at 2220 Willow Rd. in Northfield, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Police said the woman was driving east on Willow Road when she drifted across the center line into oncoming traffic, according to a release from Northfield police.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 63-year-old Glenview man, was taken in critical condition to Evanston Hospital, the release said.

The exact cause of the crash remained under investigation Saturday morning, according to the release. It had not been determined if alcohol was a factor.

Northfield police and the Major Crash Assistance Team — a joint operation of suburban police departments — are investigating.
