Stolen Car Report Lands Woman In Jail

CHICAGO (STMW)-- A tangled web of lies landed a South Side woman in Cook County Jail after she tried to cover up a romantic affair, prosecutors say.

Katherine Gonzalez faces a charge of disorderly conduct — filing a false police report after she panicked when confronted by her husband about the affair, it's alleged.

Gonzalez had given her car to her lover, but when her husband became suspicious and asked her where the car was, Gonzalez told him it was missing — then went to the police to report it stolen, prosecutors told Judge Adam D. Bourgeois Sunday.

When her boyfriend was accused of the theft, Gonzalez admitted lying and was arrested, according to a police report that lists her lover as a victim.

With her husband and relatives watching in court Sunday, Bourgeois ordered her held on bail of $25,000.
