BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. (STMW) — A Hickory Hills man was sentenced to 18 years in prison Tuesday after admitting he had molested a female relative for nine years.

Craig Mrazek, 49, confessed to sexually abusing the child starting when she was 7, his attorney, Michael D. Ettinger said after the hearing. Mrazek kept molesting her until she was 16, Ettinger said.

The mother of the young woman found her diary, in which she had outlined what had happened to her between 1996 and 2004, said Andy Conklin, a spokesman for the Cook County state’s attorney’s office. The child had been sexually assaulted on a weekly basis, Conklin said.

Mother and daughter went to the Hickory Hills police department, he said. Mrazek later gave a handwritten statement admitting the sexual abuse, Conklin said.

In court Tuesday, the young woman and her mother read statements to Judge Colleen Ann Hyland. Mrazek did not speak, Ettinger said.

Mrazek, of the 9200 block of South 85th Court, pleaded guilty to three of his 15 felony charges as part of a plea agreement, Ettinger said. He was given the minimum sentence — six years — for each count of predatory criminal sexual assault, but has to serve the sentences back to back, he said.

Conklin said if Mrazek is ever granted parole, he’ll face another 15 years on supervised release. Should he violate any of the terms of his parole, he’d be sent back to prison.

Then he’ll have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, Conklin said.

Public records show that Mrazek’s wife divorced him after charges were filed. He has three young children, the oldest of whom is 12.

That’s it. Tells you what it says about our justice system. It’s mostly men doing the molesting and the male law makers give these meatheads light sentences. How about the death penalty. This girl will be messed up for her life and he gets 18 years.

  • Angry As Hell

There should be no plea agreements in cases like this. How disgraceful that this piece of trash only gets 18 years. This is just one more violation of the girl he’s been violating since she was just a child. Makes me sick.

    4 words…..Perverts all over…..BEWARE

  • June Holt

He should get at the minimum 6 years for every year he abused her. That would be 54 years, maybe he will die in prison.

    • NWA

No, that could not happen in Illinois. Long prison sentences are reserved for “Colors only.”

      S.O.S.

    • Angry As Hell

No, he should get the minimum of 6 years for every incident.

  • TIME FOR A CHANGE

I wonder would a black man recives the same treatment if he would have done it so you mean to say in five years this man can get out of jail over the course of 9 years he possible never had a back ground before he is actually granted time off for programs in the prison, so basically he will do no more or no less than about 7 years and less than that if good times ocme back into the prisons.

I guess this guy must had had a catholic judge because catholic often hide things like this rather than prosecute, and LOOK AT THIS:

THIS GENERATION COULD REALLY BE BETTER IF WE WOULD PROTECT OUR CHILDREN MORE BY KEEPING THESE TYPES OF PEOPLE OUT OF COMMUNITIES BECAUSE THEY ARE SICK INDIVIDUALS AND NEED LONG TERM IN PATIENT COUNSELING AFTER RELEASE FROM PRISON

    • Fly.on.wall

This is a class X felony. The monster must serve at least 85% of his sentence. Also in his case, there is an option for “civil commitment” where the state keeps the guy locked up after his sentence because he poses a continuing danger.
