Emanuel Hints He'll Leave Ald. Burke In Key Finance Post

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel is hinting he won't try to force Ald. Ed Burke out as City Council Finance Committee chairman.

Emanuel said he recently had a productive meeting with Burke, and says he'll announce his council leadership plans soon, Newsradio 780 Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports.

But he hinted Ald. Burke's longstanding position as chairman of the powerful Finance Committee is secure.

'"I appreciate Chairman Burke's seniority," Emanuel said. "... All the [aldermen] want to see change, even the chairman."

Emanuel was at Olive Harvey College where he announced that he's keeping Cheryl Hyman as chancellor of the City Colleges, while appointing several new board members.
