Boys Charged With Robbing Younger Children, Ages 5 And 6

JOLIET, Ill. (CBS) -- Two boys, ages 12 and 13, are being held in juvenile detention for allegedly robbing a 5-year-old and a 6-year-old in Joliet over the weekend.

Joliet police Chief Fred Hayes said the 6- and 5-year-old victims were attacked around 7:10 p.m. Sunday in a parking lot near Doris Avenue and Gardner Street.

"The victims and witnesses said the (older boys) came up and knocked them to the ground and kicked them before reaching into their pockets to take $5," Hayes said.

Reports said witnesses were able to identify the suspects, who were found by officers in the neighborhood.

The victims did not require medical attention. The suspects were charged as juveniles with strong-arm robbery and booked into the River Valley Juvenile Detention Center.
