Elderly Man Charged With DUI After Hitting Four Homes

PALOS HILLS, Ill. (STMW) — A 77-year-old man was charged with drunk driving and issued several traffic violations after striking four houses early Monday in south suburban Palos Hills, damaging one so badly it is was rendered uninhabitable.

About 12:15 a.m. Monday, police were dispatched to the area of 9700 Kingsbury Court for a traffic crash, a release from Palos Hills police said. When officers got to the scene they found Michael Doorhy’s vehicle stuck against the north side of a garage and Doorhy inside the car, with his foot down on the accelerator, spinning the tires.

Police noticed that Doorhy had struck four houses in that area.

One house was so severely damaged that the city of Palos Hills found it to be unfit for occupancy, the release said.

While speaking to Doorhy police smelled a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. He submitted to a blood and urine test.

He was arrested and charged with four counts of failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, two counts of improper lane usage, one count of improper backing, one count of reckless driving, and one count of driving under the influence of alcohol, the release said.

Mr. Doohy needs to be taken off the road along with anyone else that drives drunk. It doesn’t matter if he is 17 or 77; drunk is drunk and he needs to be punished by taking his license away and removing the plates from his car so he can’t drive even without a license.

Totally agree Roberta ! Any age should have it revoked ! Period ! Sorry, Life Lesson learned ! What if he killed someone ??? Too late, after that. Just sayin’ !!!!

I know the old guy. Drinking settles his nerves. Are you against the elderly taking medication for their anxieties? He drives well enough not to hit someone.
