Dempster Roughed Up In 11-5 Loss To Diamondbacks

CHICAGO (AP) Ryan Dempster gave up seven runs in the first inning and the Arizona Diamondbacks never looked back as they routed the Chicago Cubs on Thursday night.

Stephen Drew hit his first career grand slam to spark an Arizona franchise-record, seven-run first inning and the Diamondbacks cruised 11-2 on Thursday night.

Drew finished with a career-best five RBIs, Miguel Montero also homered and drove in three runs, and Barry Enright (1-2) won his first game since Sept. 1 for the Diamondbacks, who have won three of four.

Dempster (1-3) recorded the shortest outing of his 266-start career, recording only one out and allowing seven runs, four hits, four walks and a hit batter.

The Cubs have lost four straight and six of seven.
