2 Jail Inmates Charged In 2008 Slaying

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two men have been charged in the 2008 slaying of a 28-year-old man fatally shot in the head in the West Side Lawndale neighborhood.

Anthony Ward, 20, of the 2700 block of South California Avenue, and Devonta Guyton, 18, of the 16800 block of South Broadway Street in Crest Hill, were both charged with one count of first-degree murder. Both men are currently serving sentences at the Cook County Correctional Center for separate incidents.

About 12:29 a.m. on Aug. 2, 2008, the victim was allegedly confronted by Ward and Guyton in the 2100 block of South Pulaski Road, according to a police News Affairs release.

The men beat the victim around the head and shot him, according to the release.

The victim was reportedly dead on the scene with a gunshot wound to the head, according to police at the time.

Bond was set at $1 million for Ward, and Guyton was denied bond Friday in court, according to the Cook County Sheriff's website. Both are next scheduled to appear in court May 17.
