CHICAGO (AP) – Two tied election races in Cook County are to be decided by the toss of a coin.

Cook County Clerk David Orr will toss coins Monday to decide the winners in a Berwyn school board race and a Broadview village trustee race.

In Berwyn, candidates Fritz Paul-Emile and Joseph Festa are tied at 162 votes each.

In Broadview, Woodie Morris and Gerald Davis are tied with 458 votes each.

Illinois law says when two or more candidates tie, the county clerk shall determine the election “by lot.”

Orr has a plan to decide who calls “heads” or “tails.” He will put the candidates’ names in pill bottles, mix them up and make a selection. The person whose name is chosen gets to call “heads” or “tails.”
