Men Charged With Stabbing, Beating Victims With Scooter

CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. (CBS) -- Two men have been charged with felonies, after a vicious fight in Crystal Lake over the weekend where two people were beaten with a scooter and a third was stabbed.

Police were called to a fight in progress involving 15 to 20 people about 2 a.m. at the Crystal Lake Apartments, 150 Woodstock St., a release from Crystal Lake police said.

Officers found a 25-year-old man stabbed in the chest and abdomen, and two other Crystal Lake residents, a 33-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman injured after someone struck them in the head with a metal scooter used as a bludgeon, the release said.

The stabbing victim was taken to Centegra Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry but was later airlifted to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville due to the seriousness of the wounds, the release said.

The other two victims were treated and released for superficial head wounds at Woodstock Memorial Hospital in Woodstock.

After an investigation, police learned Ezequiel Del Angel, 33, of 1690B Woodstock St. in Crystal Lake stabbed the man during the fight. He was taken into custody and charged with one count each of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm and aggravated battery by use of a deadly weapon, the release said.

Another man, Isidro Segura, was also charged, after being identified as one of the combatants, with one count of aggravated assault. He was also cited under a local fighting ordinance. Segura was released after posting $150 bond and will appear in McHenry County court June 14.

Del Angel was taken to the McHenry County Jail, where bond was to be set by a judge. Updated information on the bond was not immediately available.

Police did not elaborate on what prompted the fight, and it's unclear whether anyone else is to be charged.
