OAK PARK (CBS) -- Police have released surveillance images of a man they believe is responsible for a string of violent robberies in the village.

The images were captured from a bank camera on the West Side of Chicago where the man used an ATM card minutes after it was stolen from the victim of a robbery. The attack took place on Thursday around 8 p.m. in the 300 block of North Oak Park Avenue.

Five Oak Park women have been robbed under similar circumstances since March 30. The women were alone when the offender approached, grabbed them around the neck and demanded their purses and cell phones.

All five robberies took place near Lake Street between Austin Boulevard and Oak Park Avenue.

While the incidents are similar, police have not ruled out the fact that there may be several suspects. The video images do not closely match a police sketch generated from a description by one of the earlier victims.

Anybody with information should call 708 386 3800 or 708 434 1636.
