Baby Falls Out Of Second-Story Window

CARY, Ill. (STMW) -- A 1-year-old baby playing with an older brother fell through a screen and out of a second-story window Tuesday evening in northwest suburban Cary.

The McHenry County Sheriff's office and Cary Fire Protection District responded just before 8 p.m. to the 8300 block of Hickory Nut Grove Road in an unincorporated area near Cary for a report of a fallen child, according to the sheriff's office.

The child's mother told deputies the baby had been playing upstairs with an older brother. The mother, who was downstairs, heard a noise like something had dropped. When she went back upstairs, she found the window screen out and the baby gone, the release said.

The mother then saw the child had fallen and called 911, the release said. Paramedics took the baby to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, but neither the sheriff's office, the fire district nor the hospital would give the child's condition.

The sheriff's office said that the state Dept. of Children and Family Services had been notified, as mandated by law, but said no criminal charges are expected.
