Tinley Park Police Chief Dies Following Surgery

TINLEY PARK (CBS) -- Tinley Park Police chief Michael O'Connell died Wednesday morning after complications from surgery, Mayor Ed Zabrocki said.

O'Connell, 60, underwent heart surgery about 11 days ago. He died about 8 a.m. Wednesday morning in Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey.

O'Connell, police chief since 1995, had been leave from the department for a heart problem for about a month, Zabrocki said.

Acting Chief Pat McCain has filled in for O'Connell and will remain in that role at least temporarily, Zabrocki said.

A visitation is scheduled from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday, May 15, at Brady-Gill Funeral Home, 16600 S. Oak Park Avenue, Tinley Park. A funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, May 16, at St. Stephen Deacon and Martyr Church, 17500 84th Avenue, Tinley Park.
