Cab Driver Shot, Critically Wounded In Evanston

EVANSTON (STMW) -- A cab driver was shot in the head overnight and left on life-support in north suburban Evanston.

About 2 a.m. Evanston Police responded to a cab that had struck a parked vehicle in the 500 block of Elmwood Avenue, according to a release from police Cmdr. Jay Parrott.

Police arrived on the scene and determined a cab driver was shot in the head. The victim was transported to a local hospital by Evanston Fire Department paramedics for treatment, according to the release.

"It doesn't appear the he was robbed,'' Parrott said.

The 50-year-old cab driver for Best Taxi, is currently in critical condition and on life support at Saint Francis Hospital and he is not from Evanston, according to Parrott.

The name of the victim is not being released at this time pending notification of the next of kin.

Evanston Police detectives along with the North Regional Major Crime Task Force are investigating the shooting.

No one has been arrested, Parrott said at 10:45 a.m.

The circumstances of how he was shot were not being disclosed immediately, the commander said.
