Fight Over District Maps Complicating Legislative Session

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Illinois House Republican Leader Tom Cross says hard feelings over Democrat-lead redistricting, are complicating final weeks of the legislative session.

Because they hold the majority, Democrats are in charge of redrawing all legislative districts, based on the latest U.S. Census data.

It happens once every 10 years, and the current remap seems to threaten GOP lawmakers by placing their districts into Democratic-leaning areas.

Cross said bad feelings among GOP members on the issue may stall action on pension reform, changes to worker's compensation and a budget deal.

But Gov. Pat Quinn wants to make sure the squabbling comes to an end.

"I have said one thing ... It should be fair and square for the people," said Quinn, who must ultimately approve the remap.
